What Is The Advantage Of Having An Outside Host For Blogger?

Right now, my blogger site is hosted by blogger, and has the blogspot term in the url. I’m using the site as a photoblog. What advantage would there be of having it hosted outside of blogger besides the ability to get rid of the ‘blogspot’ term in the url? Would there be any disadvantages?
