Is your theme widget-aware? Some of the older ones don’t understand widgets.
Does the widget work on posts (as distinguished from pages)?

If your theme is not widget enabled, you may not be able to use the plugin you want.
Some plugins allow you to add their functionality to static/non-widget pages by dropping in some PHP like < ?php plugin_function(); ?>, but not all are coded that way.
Try contacting the author of your particular plugin to see if this is possible (or read the documentation). You may need to use a different plugin, or have someone write a custom one for you.

You need to use Text widget for your own widget code..you don’t have to have a widget ready theme for that.. all you need is a sidebar in the theme and add the text widget in the sidebar.. and add your code in that text widget..
widgets can be configured in wp-admin panel
